22. 6th August 2008 Leinster Under 13 (Non- Handicap Comp) Monday August 11th.

Leinster Under 13 (Non- Handicap Comp) Monday August 11th.
With less then 7 days to go to the Leinster under 13’s open tournament in Royal Tara nine holes competition. All our tee times are between 8.15 and 9 45 am.
It is now very important that you make the practise this Sunday in HWL at 3:15 to complete nine holes. This gives everyone a great opportunity to get some serious practise in and to be prepared for August 11th.
Before the competition make sure that your clubs are in good working order for example make sure they are clean, we are after all representing Holly Lakes Golf Club, and also make sure you have enough tee’s, pencils, golf balls, and that your shoes are clean also. Don’t forget to check the grips. Unfortunately raingear is a must even though it is the summer so make sure it’s in your bag.
Travel arrangements will be discussed on Sunday after practice. Most parents are travelling direct to Royal Tara however should there be any difficulty with transport let us know on Sunday, we have lots of offers of transport. Parents should attend on Sunday.

See you Sunday at 3:15 in HWL.

Welcome to the 2008 junior season.
On Wednesday 4th June the junior golfing season will get under way. On behalf of the junior captain Killian Grimes, all junior members and the junior committee we extend a special welcome to all new junior members.
What time will junior golf start.
On each Wednesday from 4th June until 27th August junior competitions and coaching will start at 8.30am for juveniles and intermediates.
Cadets and beavers should report at 9am for coaching, followed by golf practice, rules, etc. Cadets and beavers can be collected after lunch at about 2pm.
The new clubhouse.
Already ahead of schedule it is hoped that the new clubhouse will be handed over by September, a junior room is included in the scheme. We are looking for junior involvement in selecting the leisure equipment for the junior room, click on the junior web page and tell Woody.
New professional and new pro shop.
Brian Boshell has taken up the position of HWL golf professional. The junior committee met Brian during last week to discuss coaching, listening to his plans and ideas the committee are excited. Brian will be with the juniors on Wednesday June 4th to see for himself the golfing standards of our juniors. Brian takes up his fulltime position in early July, we wish him every success.
Better weekend playing conditions for boys.
All boys who have attained a handicap of 15.4 or less to be eligible to compete in all yellow tee competitions and boys who have attained a handicap of 9.4 or less to be eligible for all white tee competitions, including medals and majors, though they may not compete for first prize in the medals and majors.
The above boys are to have full access (no time restrictions) to timesheets, as is the case with ordinary members.

Electronic competition swipe on.
Juniors are now able to use their club swipe card to enter official junior competitions, this means that handicaps are kept updated and are visible each time a junior swipes on even when visiting another club.
Tip for parents.
Make sure juniors have something to eat and drink (not crisps) during their stay in HWL. Also ensure they have golf rain ware.
Should any junior need special requirements please advise a member of the junior committee.

EASTER TIME GOLF AT HWL.
Donnie Goggin.
We only had one week of junior golf this year due to the passing of committee member Donnie Goggin, Donnie was the first face the boys and girls would meet on junior days always meeting them with a cheerful face, we are all going to miss him. To Shelia, Donnie’s wife, we offer thoughts and prayers, may he rest in peace.
Junior Members On Line Mailing List.
The junior club have now got their own e/mil list, click onto the junior web page, on the right hand side just under Woody enter your email address and you will receive any items put up on the web. Please tell other juniors of this improvement to our site.
On Line Booking for Junior members.
From 3rd May juniors when entering the Saturday junior competition can book on line, at present booking on line for the men’s Tuesday open is available.
When juniors return for summer golf they will be able to swipe into the computer for the Wednesday junior competitions.
The benefit is that the computer will print out the name, date, handicap, and the competition details on a sticky label, which can be attached to the scorecard, removing mistakes, after the round the scores are entered into the computer and the handicaps are automatically adjusted if necessary.
Visit of Headford Golf Club.
Last year HWL and Headford GCs agreed to play an annual friendly on a home and away basis, this year it was our turn to be host.
As both clubs had a team entered in the Fred Daly GUI under 18 junior competition it was a good idea that for the visit of Headford both Fred Daly teams plays a practice match. The Headford lads all play off single figures while our lowest handicap on the day was 14, so it was agreed that we play a stableford competition. Our team played out of their skin winning the overall.
The qualifying round of the Fred Daly is strokes; this suits low handicap juniors, which proved to be the case, Headford winning through to the next round while HWL although putting in a good performance lost out.

Our Fred Daly squad was Philip Grey, Cian O’Connor, Aaron Brady, Andy Blanche, Karl Moore, Usin Hand, and Jon Lenihan. Jimmy Morley and Paddy Maher managed the team.
Visit of Rush Golf Club.
On Friday 28th the annual match for the RHUL cup against Rush GC was played in HWL. This competition is mainly for junior boys and girls of both clubs with handicaps 19 or above and for juniors without handicaps
Kieran Foley and Liz Brophy were the Rush junior conveners, they had 16 juniors boys and girls with them. The day was very cold so it was agreed to play only 12 holes. The competition had singles and foursomes.
Seeing the expression on the faces of our boys being teamed up with our girls was well worth it, everything went very well and most enjoyable.
The result this year went to HWL and we got back the RHUL trophy after a two-year lapse.
Included in our team were Fintan O’Connor, Simon Lenihan, Killian McGreer, Niall Murphy, Andrew McEvoy, Nathan Farrell, Luke O’Brian, Aaron Turner, Andy Blanche, Lisa McConnell, Craig Mahon, Andrew Cowan, Jennifer O’Mara, Lauren Ingle, Hannah Ingle, Seamus Ingle, Ben Kelly, and Robert Hogan. Lets hope that we have not left out anyone.
Under 15 Interclub GUI Competition.
The first match in the under 15 interclub competition will be away to Donabate GC on April 12th at 4pm. The format is match play with a reduced handicap allowance.
Included in our panel are, Aaron Brady, Craig Mahon, Andrew McEvoy, Luke O’Brian, Damien Butler and Killian McGreer. Best of luck on Saturday boys.

Other matches to be played are away to Malahide GC and home to The Island and Forrest Little GCs.

Happy New Year to you and your family, hopefully all our handicaps will move in 2008, in your case down and in my case stay still.
Please settle down in school and college this term, study and do well in your exams.

Easter holidays are early this year; they start on the 14th and go on until the 31st March. During the Easter holidays we will be having junior golf for cadets, beavers, juveniles and intermediates. The exact dates will be put up on the web notice board during February so keep looking.
Any new juniors will be invited to play and meet and greet with established members.

In this first issue of 2008 I must draw the following very important points to your parents.
Did you fill in the re-newel membership application form if you did not do it now and forward it with your cheque to the office before the 31st January as already pointed out spaces will be at a premium this year.
Re-entry interviews will take place in February, you will be notified of the date, it will be important that you and one of your parents attend the interview.
We will be looking for parents’ assistance during the 2008 regarding transporting juniors to away matches and also provide supervision on Wednesdays during the summer junior golf season.

I must thank “Woody” for arranging to have the information on “New Driver Rules” and “New Golf Rules” available, please, please click on and check if your driver is legal, Woody also advises to be on the lookout if you are offered a CHEAP driver it might be one of the banned ones.
Should you need to ask questions on golf or what is happening this year just click onto “Ask Woody” and ask, by the way Woody has a partner called Irons, he will answer questions on The Golf Course and The New Clubhouse, use the Ask Woody file for Irons.
Keep looking for the Easter Dates.
